Bad boy, bad boy…

Okay. I broke a rule.  (Okay, two if you count this picture shot last week in my local Planet Fitness.  There was no one else in the shot except me.)  But the rule I am going on about is a rather big rule and is the second rule I parley to anyone that I ever train or give advice to.  If all things were considered, I should have known better. Once upon a time I was told, ‘go to the gym with a purpose. Not a chip.’ (That is why none of my lifting buddies were Chip.)(Okay, there was a couple … Continue reading Bad boy, bad boy…

Target the silver fox…

If I have ever offended, I am sorry. Something happened has rattled me a little.  Not because it struck a chord, but because of the sheer audacity. I overheard and was invited into a conversation about health and fitness. Specifically the struggles being a person of added heft. It quickly seemed that this person was having self image issues, if not confidence issues. And the longer I sat the more it seemed that I was being targeted. It was suggested that I had no clue what it was like to be heavier than what was healthy. Because “[I] was so … Continue reading Target the silver fox…

Smart *#!@ little so-and-so…

A member/client asked me about bike riding for older adults. I answered thinking about someone in their seventies and eighties, since I am in my fifties. I know several cyclists who are 10-15 years my senior. “Oh, no, I was asking for someone my grandmother’s age – she’s 52.” After I resisted the urge to smack the stuffing out of the smarmy little… I proceeded with what I thought was a well thought opinion. Then I researched and came across this article that mirrored my response and suggestions. I’m going to reshare. Link to People for Bikes article: Silver Linings Continue reading Smart *#!@ little so-and-so…

fit fads

Just a thoughtful reminder; I have recently been bombarded with pop up ads on facebook suggesting that I may not be able to reach my fitness goals at my age.  And there have been the ones that suggest that I should do so before getting to my age.  There have been the celebrity secret ads and the amazing miracle ads. Fads, are fads, are fads… There is not a quick and easy fix. There is nothing that can make it happen as quickly as you want it to.  You may want that beach body but it is going to take … Continue reading fit fads

We’re off…

This was not as I had expected it to be. For my first “event”, not bad. The ride itself, and only the ride was about an hour and 45 minutes. But it took us all day. There was the traffic lights, construction, the flat tire – Gary’s not mine. We were on the bike, then off the bike, lock the bike, shop for this, pack it away, lug it around. Unlock the bike get back on the bike. Cuss. Forgot to look up the next destination. Oh, where are my glasses. My battery is dead. We should have gone … Continue reading We’re off…

BMI of 23, and still obese?…

UPDATE: 10/28/2015 my 6 month follow up. (All because I am still on the books as a Diabetic.) (It’s not something I mind because it allows me to stay in check between my annual physicals. With blood work and labs.) All of the nurses were “fawning” over me and me “new” look. I lucked out and was able to have met for a third or fourth time the same Doctor. (Being a Vet and using the VA one discovers a high turnover rate with PAs and MDs.) She walked into the exam room reading labs. Stops, makes eye contact with … Continue reading BMI of 23, and still obese?…
