A Cedar Rapids, Iowa woman found a little something extra in the remnants of her morning brew. While setting up her automatic coffee maker, before bedtime, as she regularly does, she discovered what remained of a cooked bat.
It was reported by the Iowa Department of Health that the woman had reported a bat in her house but wasn’t worried about it. She discovered the winged critter in the filter as she was setting up the machine for the following morning. The bat had been in the machine when it brewed her morning coffee. The woman is undergoing treatment for possible rabies. Health officials advised that the bat had been sent to the lab but the brain was too cooked by the hot water to determine whether it had rabies.
